How to import boards from other sources?

You can work with boards from other solutions inside Whiteboards too if you need to switch software or want to check out what we offer based on your previous work.

Importing a board from a different source requires a bit of work, but you get an amazing set of Whiteboards features that can’t be found anywhere else, like our Jira tools.

Boards in Whiteboards are based on a .json format, so to import boards from a different source, they need to be coded in the same way.

Requirements

To import a file through our restore option, you’d need:

  1. A board in a .json file from your source (or a different format that allows conversion to .json).

  2. A developer or other team member who can analyze boards exported from different sources and convert them to .json files

  3. To convert the original file into a Whiteboards .json schema. It can be an automatic or manual conversion.

  4. To import the file to Whiteboards by going to Board settings >> Restore and uploading the file.

Limitations

  1. You can only import objects that are in our solution (for example, tables can’t be imported as they’re offered in Whiteboards).

  2. Files uploaded to the board won’t be migrated as they are not stored in .json files.

Process

Send your developer the link to the Whiteboards schema on GitHub, so they can understand our format and then identify which elements can be converted into a Whiteboards model.

We provide our format for lines, cards, text, images, or other objects that can be added to the board.

If you’re having issues with the conversion, contact us at support@whiteboards.io and send your files over—we’ll do our best to help!
